Responsibilities include: Gather story information from news sources, including governmental, law enforcement, private business, public relations firms, phone call-ins, faxes, the Internet, wire services, reporters, etc. Determine newsworthiness of each story idea/tip. Make decisions on what stories to cover, and assign appropriate crews. Keep news management and newscast producers apprised of all breaking news and changes in previous assignments. Keep story files updated. Make regular beat check calls to law enforcement and other governmental agencies. Monitor police and fire scanners for potential breaking news. Monitor other station’s newscasts for coverage comparison. Communicate with field crews for updates on story assignments. Debrief reporters for story advancements and beat coverage. Sort mail and faxes and act upon each appropriately. Answer phones in a polite and businesslike manner. Participate in editorial meetings. Will edit videotape for newscasts and special projects for NBC and ABC affiliates in Fort Myers, FL.
Responsibilities Include:
Supervise editing of all shows, schedule staff and take a role in hiring and training. Will work with Chief Photographer on issues relevant to personnel, equipment and supplies. Will coach editing staff and producers on organizational procedures for smooth operation in the edit bays. Responsible for editing videotape from raw tape and feed sources, archive videotape and organize tapes for feeds. Must be able to also operate feed room. Will work closely with newscast producers, other newsroom personnel and editing staff to get the cleanest possible shows on the air.
Qualifications:
Must have at least one year of news editing experience. Minimum two years of college or trade school.
Must be able to edit to script and tell a story with pictures. Applicants should have a grasp on newsroom operations and a clear understanding of current events. Beta SP & SX editing and ENPS newsroom computer system experience a plus. We are looking for organized candidates who can communicate and work well under deadline pressure. The qualified candidate must also have excellent technical, verbal, written, time management and interpersonal skills.
